What to Expect During Installation

What to Expect During Your Countertop Installation

Remodeling your kitchen or bath is an important project and it’s helpful to know what to expect.  After you have agreed on a design, a budget and a plan, it’s time to get started.  To give you a better idea of what to expect during the installation process, we have outlined the key steps below:

Step 1: Project Planning – Understand how long your project will take and determine if you will need to set up a temporary kitchen.  With Triangle Granite, most countertop installations are completed in a single day.  However, if your project involves new cabinets, appliances, tile and other elements, make sure you understand how long the entire project will take and plan accordingly.

Step 2: Countertop Selection - We will accompany you to the countertop showroom to help you see the choices available and select the material, color, size, and style that best fits with your vision.

Step 3: Schedule In-home Appointment – After you select your countertop, we will schedule an in-home appointment to take measurements.

Step 4: All Cabinets Must Be Installed – Any new cabinets must be installed and level prior to creating the digital template for the countertop.  All appliances that will join the countertop as well as cooktops, sinks, faucets and other accessories that will require holes in the countertop must be at the job site prior to the in-home templating appointment.   Existing sinks and faucets do not need to be removed at this time.

Step 5: Make a Deposit for the Job – In order to begin the job, we will require a 50% deposit so we can order your granite and other materials.   The balance of the payment is due upon project completion.

Step 6:  Creating a Precise Digital Template – In your home, we will use our advanced Digital Templating technology to take precise measurements of your countertop dimensions.  We place markers at strategic locations on your countertop area.  Then, we take digital pictures from different locations to generate data from all the markers.  These digital photographs are used to triangulate the coordinates of each marker and create a precise layout of the countertop in our templating software.  We ask that an adult is present to answer any questions regarding seam placement, overhangs, hole placements for faucets, edge preference and backsplash information.

Step 7: Granite & Countertop Fabrication – Next, we go to the Triangle Granite & Tile fabrication shop to cut your granite, marble, quartz or other countertop material to the specifications determined by your precision template.  We take the template and place it on the granite slab.  Our state-of-the art equipment cuts the slab to the right dimensions and cuts out a hole for the sink.  Next, we create the edges you selected with a series of bridge saws and routers.  As the finishing touch, we move to the polishing stage where our polishing guns use rotating heads, polishing pads, and diamond grits to produce a gloss and shine to the stone.  As a final step, we apply a sealant to the granite for protection.

Step 8: Preparation for Installation – We will provide you a 2 to 3 hour window for our arrival time on the day of installation.  To prepare for installation, we ask that you clear the work area of any objects and make a clear path for the workers to carry in the granite.  Please understand that this is a significant amount of work and can take the better part of a full day.  Some final cuts and adjustments may need to be done on site and this may be noisy and create dust in the work area.  As such, plan accordingly.

Step 9: Installation – After fabrication is completed, we will deliver the final polished piece of granite to your home or business location where we gently put it into place.  Seams are leveled and smoothed with colored resin. The colored resin seals the joint and helps the seam blend into the countertop.  Sinks should be available on site and are mounted.  Faucet holes are typically drilled in the shop with the highest quality cutting equipment.  If there is a question about the proper fit, drilling may be done on location.  Your undermount sinks, if applicable, will be mounted under your stone.

Step 10: Project Completion – When the countertops have been installed you will inspect the finished job.  The lead installer will look over the installation with you and answer any questions you may have.  A period of 24 hours is required before reconnecting the plumbing.  This allows all the adhesives to dry properly.

Step 11: Final Payment – Upon project completion the payment of the final balance is due for the project.  If you choose your own plumber to reconnect the plumbing, your final payment is due after our job is done.  If you selected Triangle Granite & Tile to provide a plumber, your final payment is due after the plumbing is reconnected.
